Health Partner Scheme of West Bengal स्वास्थ्य साथी योजना

Health Partner Scheme

Why in news?

Recently the West Bengal government has implemented a health insurance scheme called Swasthya Sathi which was launched in 2016.Now it will be expanded to cover the entire population of the state.

Under this scheme up to rs5 lakh health cover is provided per family per year for secondary and tertiary care. Both, state-run and private hospitals are part of the scheme. In this scheme the card is issued to female parents of families.

New provisions added to the scheme:

Every citizen and every family in the state is to be included in the scheme.

The scheme is to be fully funded by the state government of West Bengal.

To get benefits under the scheme, smart cards will be provided to each family of the state. The cards are to be issued in the name of women members of the family.

Under the scheme, representatives of the state government visit every house to complete the nomination process. This is to be done under the 'Duare Duare Paschimbongo Government Initiative'.

The state government of West Bengal allocated rs2,000 crores to implement this scheme.

So far, about 1,590 hospitals have been included in the scheme and 1.5 crore families, or 7.5 crore people will join it.
