6 new rehabilitation sites have been identified in addition to the Kuno-Palpur Wildlife Sanctuary under the 'Project Lion'. 

It is noteworthy that the announcement of this project was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2020


The list of 6 new rehabilitation sites which are identified 


Madhav National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan

Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan

Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, Madhya Pradesh

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan

Jessore-Balaram Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary and Nearby Areas, Gujarat


Why the lions need to be rehabilitated:

The genetic diversity in the population of organisms in Gir is very low, due to which the organisms in this region epidemic outbreaks are high.

In the yaer 2013 It was orderedby the supreme court that the Asiatic lions will be transferred to the koono-Palpur wildlife sanctuary.

About the Asiatic Lion:

Asiatic lions are currently in protected areas of the agro-pastoral landscape of Saurashtra, Gujarat. The scientific name of the Asiatic lion is Panthera Leo Persica. Asiatic lion is under list of the  IUCN red list. The red list is listed under the crisis category. The population of the Asiatic lion has increased by 29%. It was 523 in 2015 and has increased to 674 in 2020.
