The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has recently announced that during the Covid 19 pandemic more than 14 crore free cylinders have been provided to the beneficiaries under the Prime Minister Ujjwala scheme.

What's Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Scheme? 

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched on May 1, 2016 from Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.  The main goal of this plan is to provide free LPG gas connections to poor families with BPL. A cash assistance of rs1600 is provided by the central government to provide connections (only once) . Selection of beneficiary families under the scheme has been done Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) of 2011 after the consultaion of the State Governments and Union Territory Government.  connections are given in the name of woman Mukhiya. All poor families have been included in the beneficiaries since December 2018. this plan is being implemented by the Ministry of Natural Gas and petroleum.

Empowering women and protecting their health.

Reducing health hazards from the burning of bio fuel.

Reduce the number of deaths from fuel pollution used for cooking.

Climate change, reduction of air pollution.
