Why in news?
Recently a webinar was organized by TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Association). The title of this webinar was Van Dhan: Tribal Startups Bloom in India. During the webinar, it was reported that the scope of Van Dhan Yojana should be extended form the current 18,000 self-help groups to 50,000 self-help groups. This target is to be achieved through Van Dhan Start-up program
Prime Minister Van Dhan Yojana?
On April 14, 2018, this scheme was introduced during the Ambedkar Jayanti festival in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh by the Prime minister Narendra Modi.
Aims of Van Dhan Yojana
The scheme aims to produce livelihood for the tribes at non-timber small forest production (MFP), using real forest assets. For this, skill upgradation and capacity building training will also be provided for value addition of forest production.
It aims to combine traditional knowledge and skills with the help of technology and IT is to be further enhanced.
Its main objective is to promote the To promote the livelihood development of MFP-focused tribal depositors and artisans.
Important facts about the scheme
10 lakh tribals have participated in the Van Dhan Start Up Scheme till now.
Under the Van Dhan Yojana, 1205 tribal enterprises have been set up so far.
