Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) set a target to install total solar capacity of 36.8 GW by 2022 under PM-KUSUM scheme. Rs34,035 crore will be spent to achieve this goal.
What is Pradhan Mantri-Kusum Yojana?
The full form of KUSUM scheme is KISAN URJA SURAKSHA UTTHAN MAHAABHIYAN. Prime Minister Farmer Energy Security and Regeneration( KUSUM) is launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), under which on the solarification of agricultural pump up to 60% of the grant is to be given.
-This scheme is being implemented by the departments of the state government, in which the farmers only have to submit 40% of the rest to the department.
-Another major component of the plan is to connect the decentralization of 10,000 MW of decentralized grids built above the ground with renewable power plants.
-The new target of the plan is to install a total solar capacity of 36.8 GW by 2022.
Benefits of the Kusum Yojana
- Farmers will be able to use the produced energy for irrigation needs and will be able to sell to additional produced energy power to the distribution companies. This will provide additional income to the farmers.
- This plan will reduce carbon dioxide and positively impact the atmosphere.
The implementation of the plan will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 27 million tonnes throughout the year.
- Solar agricultural pumps will save 1.2 billion liters of diesel every year. This will also save the foreign exchange spenton the import of crude oil.
- This scheme has the potential to create direct employment opportunities. With the increase in self-employment this scheme creates 6.31 lakh new employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers.
